Bromley, Petts Wood

For this project we at arch extension were commissioned to design an extensive redesign of a victorian semi-detached house to cater for a young expanding family. The clients brief was to redesign, mordernise and increase the size of the kitchen and add a new bedroom in the loft space.

To maximise the space on the ground floor, we opened up the lounge to create a open plan space which extends into the kitchen area which we were able to extend 6m from the existing line of the building, the kitchen was completely redesigned to allow for the central kitchen island with cabinetry to the side to allow for ample storage. Instead of proposing a typical flat roof we design a pitched roof, internally this creates more headroom and making the space feel larger and airy whilst not having any daylight blocking implications on the neighboring properties with the increased height which was concern going into the planning approval process due to the proximity of the one the neighboring building existing extensions. The addition of skylights and full width bi-folding doors with a level threshold into the patio area to make transition between internal and external space seamless and filled with natural light and create free flowing space ideal of entertaining parties in the warmer summer months.
